Calling all dancers! You are invited to join the cast of the Enchanted Garden’s 20th annual Nutcracker winter performance -- a spirited adaptation of this classic ballet, choreographed and directed by Dance Director Brenda Froehlich. Participants learn the choreography in the summer, rehearse on Sundays in the fall, and perform in December. A portion of ticket sales will benefit a charitable organization. August 22-26. Tuition: $375

Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffman’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,” the Enchanted Nutcracker will dazzle the audience with its Swarovski crystal accents on the costumes, tiaras and matching necklaces designed by Ms. Brenda. One of show’s outstanding props is Herr Drosselmeyer’s bag, crafted for the show by Redding artist Joanie Johns Lerner, who designed fabric for the several of the costumes in Broadway’s “The Lion King.”

Synopsis:  In our production, Clara is our show’s protagonist, The Nutcracker our hero, and The Evil Rat Queen our villain. The enchanted journey begins innocently enough at the Stahlbahm’s annual Christmas party. During the evening’s festivities, Clara’s uncle, Herr Drosselmeyer, arrives with life-size dolls that magically come to life. He saves a special gift just for Clara, which makes her brother Fritz jealous. What no one realizes is that the toy Nutcracker is actually a prince who has been enchanted by an evil sorcerer. During the night, Clara seems to drift off to sleep. What follows is a battle between Giant Mice, Toy Soldiers, and The Nutcracker against The Rat Queen. Is this a dream or really happening? A magical snowstorm whisks our hero and heroine to an even more enchanted Land of Sweets. Here Clara and The Nutcracker meet the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy and all of her subjects from around the world. The Enchanted Nutcracker culminates with a grand waltz in the Land of Sweets.
